Starting a Home Gym

When starting a home gym the selecting the right equipment can be a daunting task. We're here to help
Where will your home gym go?
We'd all love to have unlimited space for our home gyms but that's not the reality for most of us. Selecting a space to dedicate to your home gym is a critical first step. Most commonly people use their (part) of their garage, but spare bedrooms and a corner of the lounge are also popular choices.
Considerations
How much space do I have? If you're going to be doing barbell movements we recommend a minimum of 2.4m (8ft) wide space and 1m deep. If your space is smaller we have the Colorado Short Bar that may fit.
Also consider the available height, if you're over 1.8m tall you will want a minimum 2.4m ceiling to do standing shoulder press exercises or olympic lifts. We suggest a space with more height if possible (consider if you have a garage with out a ceiling you may be able to locate yourself between supports for the roof or floor above.)
Budget? We'd all love to have an unlimited budget but most of us dont have unlimited money so working out what you want to spend is important. One thing we love about Rep equipment is its expandability. You could buy a 4 Post rack to get started and when funds allow, turn it into a 6 post, or add on Athena or Ares functional trainers. The key is planning what you want to end up with and what you can afford now.
Also consider what you want to invest the money into now. We firmly believe in a "buy once, cry once" mantra. We believe Rep equipment is the best equipment for most people but there are cheaper options out there. A good rack will last a life time and is the cornerstone of most home gyms and with Rep it can also grow with you but you may want to save money and buy a cheap barbell and weight plates from else where and when funds allow upgrade the barbell or add specialty bars.
What kind of training do you want to do? A PR5000 rack with Ares looks great but if you're a pure power lift or Olympic lifter you may not need a functional trainer. If your not a competitive lifter you probably dont need Calibrated weight plates (but they are beautiful.) A smith machine is a nice add one but only if you will actually use it.
What should you buy?

Get the Rep Quick draw adjustable dumbells. A good pair of adjustable dumbells and some discipline is all anyone really needs. They are even upgradable so you as you get stronger you can upgrade them.
If space and budget allows add the Rep AB 3000 adjustable bench. It will give you a lot more options of what you can do.
